Terms & Conditions

By joining Kingston Jiu Jitsu (KJJ), you agree to the following terms and conditions. Please read them carefully, as they set out the responsibilities of both members and the club.

1. Membership

  • Memberships are personal and non-transferable.
  • Membership begins on the day you join KJJ.
  • All online FastDD membership agreements are for a minimum of 4, 6, 8, or 12 months.
  • Memberships will automatically continue to roll on month 5, 7, 9, or 13 unless you contact Debit Finance Collections Plc with at least 30 days’ notice.
  • KJJ may alter or amend these terms and conditions at its discretion. Any changes will be communicated no later than 14 days before they take effect.
  • KJJ may terminate membership in the event of repeated or material breaches of these terms or of club etiquette.
  • All students are required to purchase and maintain a valid annual licence and insurance within their first month of training.

2. Fees & Payments

  • All fees must be paid in full and on time. Failure to pay may result in suspension of training privileges.
  • Any missed payments must be cleared in full before returning to train.
  • Where an arrangement is agreed to clear arrears, you may continue to train provided the arrangement is honoured.
  • If arrears remain without cancellation during the agreed minimum term, you will be obligated to clear the full amount for that period.
  • To qualify for student membership, valid student ID must be shown to an instructor.
  • Military and Emergency Services memberships apply only to actively serving personnel.
  • KJJ may change membership fees at its discretion, giving at least 14 days’ notice.

3. Training

  • Training is provided at the times and locations listed on www.kingstonjiujitsu.com.
  • KJJ reserves the right to change training days, times, and facilities at its discretion.
  • Classes may be cancelled due to instructor unavailability, facility issues, or unforeseen events. KJJ will make all reasonable efforts to notify members of cancellations promptly.
  • Members must follow the instructions of coaches at all times and uphold standards of respect, discipline, and safety.

4. Health & Medical Responsibility

  • You must complete a health declaration form before training.
  • You are responsible for ensuring you are fit to train and for seeking medical advice if unsure.
  • You must disclose any injuries, medical conditions, or medication that may affect your training.
  • If you feel unwell or injured during a session, you must stop immediately and inform the instructor.

5. Training Conduct & Etiquette

  • Good hygiene is mandatory: clean gi and clothing, short nails, no jewellery.
  • Respect your training partners — no aggressive, reckless, or unsafe behaviour will be tolerated.
  • The use of foul or abusive language, bullying, or harassment will result in disciplinary action, including suspension or termination of membership.

6. Safety & Assumption of Risk

  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and contact sport that carries a risk of injury.
  • By training at KJJ, you accept this risk and agree that participation is at your own responsibility.
  • Training may be physically strenuous. You voluntarily take part with full knowledge of the risks.
  • KJJ and its instructors are not liable for any injury, loss, or damage sustained, except where caused by proven negligence.
  • Neither you, your heirs, assigns, nor legal representatives will make claims against KJJ, its owners, instructors, staff, or volunteers for injury, property damage, or wrongful death connected to training, except in cases of proven negligence.
  • You must not train under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

7. Junior Members & Safeguarding

  • Children under 18 must have parental or guardian consent to train.
  • Parents or guardians remain responsible for drop-off and collection of children.
  • KJJ is responsible for junior members only during supervised class times.
  • Junior memberships automatically convert as follows:
    • At 16: junior membership converts to adult student membership.
    • At 18: adult student membership converts to full adult membership unless valid student ID is provided.
  • KJJ follows safeguarding policies to protect children and vulnerable members.

8. Facilities & Personal Belongings

  • Members are expected to treat club property with respect.
  • KJJ is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings brought onto the premises.

9. Data Protection

  • Personal data will be stored securely and used only for membership administration, class management, and communication.
  • KJJ complies with UK GDPR regulations. A separate Privacy Policy is available on request.

10. Cancellations & Refunds

  • Membership cancellations must be made in writing with 30 days’ notice.
  • Refunds are not issued for missed classes, except where KJJ cancels a session.
  • In cases of long-term injury or illness, membership freezes may be offered at KJJ’s discretion.

11. Liability & Insurance

  • KJJ carries public liability insurance.
  • Members are strongly encouraged to obtain personal sports injury insurance for additional cover.
  • All students must hold and maintain the required annual licence and insurance within their first month of training.

12. Club Rights

  • KJJ reserves the right to refuse membership or cancel a membership at any time if these terms are breached.
  • Class times, schedules, and instructors may change at the club’s discretion.

13. Respect & Community

  • All members are expected to uphold the values of respect, inclusivity, and integrity both inside and outside the academy.
  • Discrimination, harassment, or behaviour that damages the reputation of KJJ will not be tolerated.
  • Members should support each other’s progress and contribute to a safe, welcoming training environment.
  • KJJ reserves the right to act if a member’s behaviour is deemed harmful to the club community.

14. Agreement

By attending classes at KJJ, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.

Kingston Jiu Jitsu is a private organisation and reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone.

The first 30 day training period serves as a trial period to ensure the student’s suitability for and safety inside the class. Any student’s membership can be cancelled and refunded at our discretion during this period.
