This has been an enormously difficult decision to make, but we have decided to cancel all classes until further notice. Our students can, however, continue to access classes via our online portal Kingston Jiu Jitsu Online and via the Mauricio Gomes Legacy students Facebook group.
Like everyone, we have been watching the events unfold across the world over the last few months, and trying to make decisions regarding the safety and wellbeing of all our club members based on evidence from other countries and experts around the world. Guidance has been confusing for most of us and, with it constantly changing, it has been challenging to know what is the best course of action to take.
Jiu jitsu is undeniably a close contact sport and, while we’ve tried to keep everyone as safe as possible, we have reached the stage where our health system is already over-burdened and cases of COVID-19 are increasing rapidly.
Jiu jitsu is also very addictive and some will find this decision difficult to understand! But we all have a duty to keep our wider community safe, including the amazing health workers, the elderly and those with complex medical conditions.

We feel really lucky to have such an amazing club, and this is really a heartbreaking decision to have made. But everyone is affected by this and we are really grateful for all your support since the club started 8 years ago. And we will come back stronger than ever once it is safe to do so!
Look after yourselves and each other, remember the elderly and vulnerable, stay safe, and look forward to seeing you on the mats again very soon.
